MAJOR CHANGES FOR CUET 2024

MAJOR CHANGES FOR CUET 2024.

Date : 20-02-2024

(Keshav Agarwal Career Coach and Memory Expert)

The CUET 2024 has been scheduled between May 15 and May 31. The application process is likely to commence by the end of February. In this edition of CUET some major changes are proposed based on the previous two years’ experience and inputs received from various stake holders. Let us see the some of the likely changes that are going to take place as per NTA and UGC.

HYBRID MODE (ONLINE & OFFLINE MODE):

The subjects for which more than 1.5 lakh applications are registered will be conducted in pen-paper mode, while those below this mark will be computer based.

Some of the subjects, which are likely to be conducted in pen-paper mode (Offline Mode), based on previous year application mode are English, physics, chemistry, mathematics, accountancy, economics, among others.

NUMBER OF SHIFTS:

Most of the papers are likely to be conducted in single shifts, thus doing away with the normalisation process required for multisession exams. The merit will be prepared on the basis of raw scores rather than on the basis of normalised scores as done till 2023.

NUMBER OF SUBJECTS:

The number of subject choices a candidate can make will be limited to six, including the general test unlike last year where maximum subject choices a candidate could make was 10.

The students can write six papers in different combinations, such as 4 domain papers, 1 language paper, 1 general test paper or, 3 domain papers, 2 language papers and 1 general test paper.

NUMBER OF TEST CENTRES :

To alleviate exam stress and increase flexibility to choose their preferred exam centres closer to home, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will expand the number of examination centres for the CUET UG exam. It will also help students in rural areas and fpr areas like Kashmir, Jharkhand and some places in North East.

TIME GAP:

Appropriate measures will be taken to ensure there is ample time between exams scheduled on the same day. The exams also will be scheduled on fewer days compared to last year where the papers were spread over a longer period and thousands of CUET-UG aspirants found that they were assigned exam centres that were far away from their hometowns when they had opted for а centre nearby.

The above changes proposed is a step in right direction as it promotes inclusivity, equal opportunities for all, ensuring that geographical constraints do not hinder students' educational aspirations in rural and remote areas and also the glitches in examination doesn’t cause inconvenience to students. Let’s wait for the final update form NTA and see what all changes are finalised in the third edition of CUET 2024
